Bio – Sam Chaneles

Bio

Sam Chaneles is currently a Mechanical Engineering student at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA. Sam has a passion for the outdoors, and loves backpacking, mountaineering, skiing, golf, running, and many other sports. Sam got his start backpacking in Alaska and has been trekking ever since, hopping around the globe for adventures!

Notable Expeditions

  • John Muir Trail
    • 20 day, self-supported thru-hike of the John Muir Trail, starting from
      Yosemite NP and ending at Mt. Whitney. Began June 18 in early season
      conditions. Of 220 miles, 185 were snow-covered at the time. First
      known southbound thru-hiker of the season.
  • Colorado Crest
    • 40 day, self supported, solo trip along self-created cross-country route.
      Began at Cumbres Pass, following the CDT until Monarch Pass.
      Completed the Nolan’s 14 route through the Collegiate Peaks
      Wilderness, cresting 14 Colorado 14ers. Continued on CDT to Berthoud
      Pass. Completed Pfiffner Traverse, a world-class, cross-country high
      route through Indian Peaks Wilderness and Rocky Mountain National
      Park.
  • Dusky Track, New Zealand
    • Successful thru-hike of the Dusky Track in Fiordland National Park, New
      Zealand. Known as one of the hardest hikes in New Zealand. Only
      accessible via Ferry across Lake Haruoko. Additional climb of Tamatea
      Peak. Co-lead helicopter evacuation of expedition team member.
  • GR20, Corsica, France
    • Leader of 8 person expedition team to successfully complete the GR20
      from north to south on the French island of Corsica. Over 14 days, the
      team completed the GR20, known as the “hardest hike in Europe.”
      Additional summit of Monte Cinto, the highest peak in Corsica.
